Luminox watches
The name Luminox was created by combining the words Lumi (light in Latin) and Nox (night in Latin). The history of this brand began in 1989 in California, where the idea was born to create highly durable and accurate watches that would be easily readable under any light conditions. Barry Cohen, a fashion watch merchant, and Richard Timbo are behind the creation of the brand. Despite its American origins, the watches are manufactured in Switzerland, which quickly earned them a reputation for being high-quality watches.
Luminox Technology
What sets Luminox watches apart from others is the unique LLT (Luminox Light Technology) backlight technology. This technology ensures that the watches will be visible under any light conditions for up to 25 years without the need for external illumination or pressing buttons. Luminox uses tritium capsules filled with tritium gas, which, by their glow, make it easier to read the time under all light conditions. These capsules are mounted on the hands, indexes and some watch bezels.
Materials Used
High-quality requirements have led the brand to innovate also in the area of materials for the production of watch cases. Some models use the innovative CARBONOX™ (+) carbon composite or #tide ocean material, which is 100% made from plastics from the world's oceans. Luminox takes sustainability seriously, and its recycling program for the reuse of plastic is not the only activity it undertakes in this regard. The company has been completely CO2 neutral since 2020.
Popularity with elite units and outdoor enthusiasts
Thanks to their quality and reliability, Luminox watches have become very popular, especially with various special units, law enforcement groups and outdoor enthusiasts. The brand is trusted by a number of elite units led by U.S. Navy SEALs, U.S. Air Force and Lockheed Martin fighter pilots, FBI members, and last but not least, the world's most recognised face of survival and outdoor adventure, Bear Grylls.
